What to look for in a rental property

1. Can you afford it?
Not just right now, but what about if you had an extra child enter the household, or if one of you wasn’t working for some reason. My advice is don’t stretch yourself too thin!

2. Does the neighbourhood suit you?
If you’re used to being walking distance to the kids school or minutes away from your favourite cafĂ© – how does the new neighbourhood suit?

3. How’s the size?
It’s human nature that we’ll expand to fit any size property, but does this home fit you – and will it fit you in a year (it can be expensive to move!)

4. Feature Check
How’s the heating? Does the parking suit? Are your future pets going to be able to live here (as well as any you have now)?

5. What’s the agent like?
You’d be surprised at the difference dealing with a good property manager makes. You want someone who is firm but fair and a great communicator.
